Why do I want to be a health professional?

I have always thought of health professionals as compassionate, knowledgeable, and caring, however did not really understand what it took to be a health professional until I reached college. Once in college I learned that I have a passion for the sciences along with a passion for working with people, specifically people who are underserved and people who are not native to the U.S. While at DePaul I have been able to get opportunities within shadowing at places such as Lurie's Children Hospital, Volunteering at the Howard Brown Center, and research at DePaul in the psychology department. All of these moments have given me a great variety of experiences to help me understand the career, specifically the time and energy put into the profession, and the dedication and drive that health professionals have to create a caring and compassionate patient environment. After putting much thought into my decision I think becoming a health professional is something that I can be very passionate while also contributing to the underserved populations of the greater Chicago area.
